’cause it’s not pretty!
I’m not usually one to comment on political issues but this one caught my attention. This was a quote from David Cameron to Sky News regarding Christian peaceful protester Brain Haw who has sat outside parliament 24/7 since 2001 in protest of the suffering of innocent Iraqis during the invasion and occupation Iraq and who has subsequently challenge the freedom of speech and freedom to protest laws with the U.K.
“I am all in favour of free speech and the right to demonstrate and the right to protest” said Cameron, “But I think there are moments when our Parliament Square does look like a pretty poor place, with shanty town tents and the rest of it”.
He added that “I am all for demonstrations but my argument is ‘enough is enough’”.
Whether you agree with Brians Haws’ protest or not… the argument for his removal on the basis he makes the place look messy is a little weak, and ultimately freedom of speech is exactly that….freedom….whether we like it or not….or it’s not freedom is it? interesting huh.

Iraq and Afghanistan looked more than just “pretty poor” after we bombed them, but David Cameron had no problem with that… he was all in favour.
Politicians want Brian out of the way because they don’t want people to hear the truth.
I really respect Brian for his dogged determination to keep these things in the spotlight and his selfless and tireless campaigning on behalf of others. Brian is an inspiration to millions… something the likes of David Cameron or Tony Blair will never be.
Hi Chris, welcome to my blog and thanks for your comments, I also respect Brian, he’s made a monumental commitment to stand up for what he believes in, without using violence to do so, I’m not sure I have that kind of commitment and that is a deep personal challenge.
Interestingly (or not) I went to visit Brian after I posted this, I’ve dropped by a couple of times since, I was so inspired by his actions, if only more people would stand up for justice and an end to violence, war, power-mongering and poverty.
He is a true inspiration.
We can only hope that his message has been heard and will continue to inspire people.
After all it is in my opinion the message Jesus taught.
We can only hope that more people grasp the transformational power of love for each other and for the rest of humanity.
